Two Asymptotes in Bitcoin

Jon Gulson

--

Early Bitcoin pioneer Hal Finney, was precise in his language describing the protocol: “The 50 bitcoin reward gets halved every four years, so the total number of bitcoins that will ever be created stays under 21 million.”

This is exact because Hal states “under”: bitcoin supply approaches 21 million, but never actually touches on that culmination.

The second asymptote is the bitcoin against the sovereign fiat issuance: over time, Bitcoin has proved superior in its strength by appreciation, but because of the internal divisibility of the bitcoin, means the exchange can never go to absolute zero in terms of an inflation (or deflation) rate — assuming inflation should ideally be zero.

The demonstratively determinative approach of the Bitcoin design, is something to consider, if it is not to be ignored.
